Amarillo firefighters rescue 10 dogs from mobile home fire

The Amarillo Fire Department released information Wednesday morning about a structure fire in which 10 animals were rescued and no injuries were reported.

According to a news release, at about 7:53 p.m. Tuesday, Amarillo fire crews responded to a report of a structure fire in the 1200 block of N Tyler. The first unit on the scene found a mobile home with heavy fire coming from a wooden porch, and the fire had extended into the home.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, and the home's occupants were outside the residence when crews arrived.

In addition, Amarillo firefighters rescued 10 dogs from the interior of the home. Two of those dogs were treated with oxygen due to smoke inhalation.

The fire was determined to have started on the porch.

Red Cross responded to assist the occupants and their animals.AFD said 18 firefighters and eight units were on the scene of the fire, which caused an estimated loss of $5,000.
