Raymond Miazga, who is nearly 60 years old, was watching the movie “Face/Off” the night of April 22, but felt like he was in “The Matrix.”

As a barrage of bullets sprayed his Lincoln Park residence from two alleged shooters standing outside, Miazga said he had to “do some acrobatic stuff” as he made a mad dash for cover.

He counted nine bullets that penetrated his residence and at least seven more that hit his home and pickup truck.

Some windows on his truck are shattered and holes remain inside his residence as a daily reminder of the traumatic experience.

He said some windows at his home are broken, too.

It’s an experience he would love to erase, but in reality, it’s one he will never forget and he wants people to know exactly what happened to him and the aftermath that still impacts his life.

According to Miazga, it was just before 11 p.m. when he heard a man and woman arguing outside his residence in the Lincoln Park Mobile Home Village, 3075 Dix Hwy.

He said it was angry and disturbing, so Miazga decided to say something.

“I went out there and asked them to take that down the street,” he said.

The two men exchanged some words and Miazga said when the man, who had a skinny build and was on a kid’s bike, saw that he wasn’t afraid and didn’t back down from him, he and the girl left.

About 15 minutes later, he said, the hail of bullets began.

“There were two people walking down the street with (guns) and they just started shooting,” Miazga said. “My dogs were going crazy. I grabbed them and hugged them. I’ve never experienced anything like that before.”

He said neither armed man was the one he engaged with minutes prior to the shooting.

One man was described as heavyset and wearing a hoodie.

“They tried to shoot me,” Miazga said. “There is no question about that.”

If the men had come into the mobile home, Miazga is sure they would have killed him.

He believes he is lucky to be alive.

“I didn’t know what they were going to do,” he said.

When the shooting was over, he said not only was his home and truck riddled with bullets, his neighbor’s house was hit with a couple, as well.

“A bullet went through my neighbor’s front room window, and one went directly in his kid’s bedroom window,” he said.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Police arrived to investigate the shooting.

Contrary to what initially was reported about the incident, Miazga said, there are witnesses and there’s a video from neighbors of the incident.

Prior to the shooting, he said, his home had never been hit with bullets, which is contrary to what police said at the time of the shooting.

Lincoln Park police are not commenting on the status of their investigation.

“That incident is still under investigation,” Chief Raymond Watters said in response to an email requesting a comment and update on the case. “Unfortunately, we do not have any information that can be released at this time.”

In the meantime, Miazga said, he's struggling to fix the windows that have been broken at his home and on his truck.

His big-screen television was destroyed after it was hit with a bullet, he said.

A former serviceman who visits Miazga from time to time to sit and chat replaced his television.

“He really wanted to help me,” Miazga said. “I told him he didn’t have to do it, but he wanted to do it. I appreciated that.”

He also is hoping to work with a church to get some of the windows fixed.

Living on a fixed income, Miazga said, he doesn’t have the money to replace about eight windows.

Miazga said he normally is as “quiet as a church mouse” in his community and has never had any problems with anyone until now.

Things have been quiet since the incident and he hopes they remain that way.
